Your Journey

So sometimes...most times... life is weird and confusing.

You are traveling on this imaginary road called life. Along the way you encounter road blocks, forks in the road, pot holes, dead ends and sometimes get turned around and go the wrong way. Right now, I feel as if I'm encountering a road block called "guys, boys, men."

Not the whole male population, just one. One who has been in my life a super long time as a best friend, support system, boyfriend, but now ex boyfriend. When I say he's wonderful, I'm not being sarcastic. He is and that is what's confusing.

Sometimes.. the wrong way happens to be the road you have been traveling on your whole life.
Sometimes.. the wrong way doesn't mean when you turn around.
Sometimes.. the right way means you HAVE to turn around, look at the past, and make decisions on what road you forgot to take.

I just heard on the TV (How I Met Your Mother) "sometimes the biggest mistake is not making the mistake at all."

Sometimes.. we don't take the right road but I think that's perfectly fine. The pot holes, road blocks, dead ends all come together to create your life so embrace every bump in the road. We aren't perfect so the road is not going to be perfectly paved for us.

Somewhere along my road, I forgot to turn. I kept going down the road my ex was traveling down because I thought that was what made me happy. It's crazy how the one thing you think is going to make you the happiest ends up leaving you empty.

So I'm turning around and finding the road I was supposed to turn on. Not leaving him completely behind but maybe catching up with him later. Roads aren't just one way streets. They can have two lanes and they often intertwine. I believe if our roads are supposed to come together, they will. And if they aren't, they won't.

Either way, sooner or later, we will all encounter someone down this road called life. Until then, find your own path. Sometimes it's you traveling with someone else. Sometimes it's you traveling alone. Either way, it's your journey so make it count.

*I almost forgot a video. Here's a song by Kari Jobe done in Spanish. One of the missionaries this summer introduced it to me. It's really beautiful. It's called "A Mi Corazón Tranquilizarás" or "Steady My Heart"

Truth For Me Today

Anger and frustration are the two feelings I get when someone lets me down. Times that by ten and you'll have what I'm feeling right now. But then I step back and ask myself "why am I feeling this way?" The answer is always because they didn't do what I wanted them to do.

It's so easy to get caught up in our own wants and desires. Then once those wants aren't met, it makes for a really bad day. But if I wake up every morning proclaiming Christ as my Savior, then my wants and desires go out the window. They are so far removed from myself that whenever people "let me down," I don't have to feel angry or frustrated because God is constant and the truth of Him sending His Son to die for my sins is the same every single day.

Remember that whenever you get angry or frustrated. It's really, really hard but it has the power to turn a really bad day to a wonderful, hallelujah! day.

That is the truth for me today. What's yours?

Now Sufjan Stevens will serenade you with "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessings."
